Litter affects us all, it blights our local environment and in the Meriden and Solihull constituencies and costs the tax payer £5,680,000 per year to clean-up. That is why, the Government’s new Litter Strategy sets out plans to help to tackle this type of anti-social behaviour, making Solihull borough a more attractive area and helping the local economy to prosper and grow.
As part of the first national Litter Strategy litter louts could be hit with £150.00 fines. This will build on measures to better distribute public bins, making it easier to throw away rubbish, and the recommendation that offenders on community sentences help to clear up fly-tipped waste. These plans will make sure in our borough we can all enjoy the local environment and it is a clean, healthy place to live and work in.
The Government has said that it wants to be the first generation to leave our environment in in a better state than we found it, and tackling litter is an important part of our drive to make our area a better place to live and visit.
Dame Caroline commented: “Litter is something that affects us all in Meriden constituency and blights our local environment.
“The Litter Strategy will make it easier for people to get rid of litter properly in Meriden, creating an anti-littering culture and introducing tougher enforcement measures to target thoughtless litter louts and those convicted of fly-tipping.
"I am proud that the Government is taking concerted action to ensure that the Meriden constituency is a nice environment for us to all enjoy. Tackling litter is paramount to making Meriden an even better place to live and work.”
