Second Church Estates Commissioner, Caroline Spelman, has congratulated all those taking taking part in the Pilgramige2Paris, who have reached the French capital ahead of COP21, the UN Climate Change Conference, which starts on Monday.  

Statement on the November 2015 Terror Attacks

The events of the past week in Beirut and Paris were calculated cowardly attacks against innocent civilians, which have traumatised the people of France, Lebanon and have shocked the international community. Paris is very dear to my heart having lived and worked in the city for over five years. Watching the news was heart breaking.

World’s largest marine reserve makes a splash

Caroline Spelman, MP for the Meriden Constituency, has campaigned successfully with other members of Parliament to create the world’s largest fully protected marine reserve around the Pitcairn Islands, an overseas territory in the South Pacific Ocean. The reserve is roughly 3.5 times the size of the United Kingdom and will be home to 1,249 marine mammals, seabirds and fish.

Switch your lights off to save forests

Caroline has signed up to support this year’s Earth Hour, highlighting the importance of protecting the world’s forests. WWF’s Earth Hour takes place on Saturday 28th March at 8:30pm, as well as the current campaign for a responsible trade in sustainably-sourced forest products. 

Europe’s wheels ‘Greeced’ for recovery?

Caroline spoke of her concern about the result of the Greek election where the far-left, populist Syriza party have formed a coalition with the centre-right party, Independent Greeks. Uncertainty over how this will impact the Eurozone has translated into a cautious financial market.
