Figures published by the Office for National Statistics have shown record high employment across the UK, with over 3 million more people in work with this Conservative Government than in 2010. According to ONS figures, there has also been a substantial fall in the number of unemployed people in the Meriden constituency - with the number of local people in receipt of out-of-work benefits now 46% lower than in 2010.
The statistics also recorded that the national level of youth unemployment has dropped below 5% for the first time in UK history and that the female employment rate was at a record high of 70.8%.
The news has been welcomed by local MP, Dame Caroline Spelman. Speaking after the publication of the report, the MP said: ' The Office of National Statistics has published another set of record-breaking figures, showing more people in work than ever, unemployment falling to the lowest rate for over 40 years and more people working full-time.
I am pleased to see that since 2010, youth unemployment across the UK has fallen by over 40%, and that here in the Meriden constituency, the number of people on out-of-work benefits has fallen by 46%. This is an excellent achievement and has served to give hundreds of local people the security of a regular income'.
