Monarch Aircraft Engineering (MAEL) is creating 150 new jobs with the intention of creating a further 150 with a new 110,000 sq.ft state-of-the-art maintenance facility at Birmingham Airport. The expansion is due to be completed by the end of 2013 and will be the first UK hangar to be specified for Boeing 787 Dreamliner maintenance, with sufficient capacity for other wide body aircraft, such as Boeing 777, 747 and Airbus A350.
MAEL has also announced that the 700th apprentice is to join its training scheme with next in-take. This 4-year scheme provides training for school-leavers, graduates and adult trainees across all aspects of aircraft maintenance and associated areas of engineering.
Responding to the news, Caroline Spelman, MP for Meriden, said: “I am delighted to hear about the engineering facility Monarch are investing in at Birmingham Airport. The creation of 300 jobs through this facility and the opportunities for apprentices is a vote of confidence in the airport and the great heritage in engineering our area has.”
