Local MP Dame Caroline Spelman met with representatives from the RSPB in Parliament to lend her support to a new campaign to raise awareness of rare and endangered Bird Species in the UK.
The RSPB’s campaign, #ShowtheLove is an annual celebration of all that we love, but could lose to climate change. It aims to highlight the progress being made by the RSPB to protect bird species and work towards a clean and secure future.
This year, the campaign encouraged people to wear and share green hearts to demonstrate their support for the protection of the natural environment and declining bird species.
Dame Caroline wore her green heart with pride at the Parliamentary reception; choosing to support the Willow Tit - one of Britain’s most at risk rare bird species for this year’s campaign.
Dame Caroline said: ‘As a former Environment Secretary, I am proud to support the RSPB campaign to ‘Show the Love’ for the natural environment.
The Willow Tit is a fine example of what we could lose to climate change if we fail to act. With just over 3,400 breeding pairs now left in the wild, this species of bird can only survive with our immediate help and intervention’.
