The Environment Agency has updated its flood warnings in this area. With a further 20mm of rain predicted on Thursday, this could lead to further flooding across parts of the Midlands. Heavy rain falling on already saturated ground has already lead to some surface water and river flooding. Strong winds could worsen surface water flooding, as wind-blown leaves and debris can block water drainage.
The main focus is on the River Avon and River Leam which run through Warwickshire. Residents are warned to stay vigilant over the next few days as heavy rain falls and makes its way through the river systems. Environment Agency teams have been mobilised across the Midlands to check on flood defences, clear any river blockages and closely monitor river levels. These teams work around the clock to reduce the risk of flooding, and will be out in force over the coming days.
Meriden MP Caroline Spelman said: “Everyone in affected areas should take note of the warnings as people can become stranded in flooded homes and cars can be swept away. As well as the sources of information below, Solihull Council is keeping residents up to date on this link: www.solihull.gov.uk/benefits/flooding.htm.”
