Local MP Caroline Spelman is encouraging constituents on benefits to take advantage of a special deal by the Royal Mail which will offer cut-price stamps before Christmas.
The cheaper stamps will be on sale at post offices from November 6 until Christmas Eve. They are available only to those on Pension Credit or Employment and Support Allowance or Incapacity Benefit. First-class stamps will be on sale at 46p, a saving of 14p a stamp on the normal 60p price.
Second-class stamps will be reduced by 14p to 36p. Eligible claimants can buy a total of 36 stamps at the discounted price.
Commenting, Caroline said: “Christmas can be an expensive time so please don’t miss out on this offer to help with the cost and please remember elderly or disabled relatives and neighbours who might want help with the scheme.
“The Royal Mail is sending out leaflets and vouchers in the post. However, to qualify for the discount, you will need to show a letter from the Department for Work and Pensions that proves you are receiving these particular benefits along with the special voucher. The vouchers will also be available in local Age UK offices nationally.
