A Chelmsley Wood company which develops hand washing units for export around the world has enjoyed a visit from a high-profile Governmental visitor.
The business secretary Greg Clark, visited TEAL Patents, based on Chelmsley Wood Industrial Estate, to see how the company’s innovative products are being designed and developed in the West Midlands and sold around the world.
The business secretary was joined by Andy Street, candidate for the first directly elected Mayor of the West Midlands on May 4, and Dame Caroline Spelman MP.
Now in its 58th year, TEAL Patents has specialised in developing mobile, hot water, handwash units since 1959 by providing exactly the right facilities where mains fresh water and drainage are non-existent.
TEAL’s product range has been designed to meet health and safety regulations and maintain essential hand hygiene levels including those in the medical, commercial vehicle, education and catering sectors.
The company also supports the World Health Organisation’s campaign to encourage children to adopt hand hygiene habits through learning resources provided in schools and nurseries.
Greg Clark MP said: “It was fascinating to be able to join Andy Street and Dame Caroline to see a business that is exporting and leading the way in terms of product development.
“If successful in his bid to become Mayor, Andy Street will be a brilliant ambassador for businesses like this which are looking to expand and move into new markets.”
Manty Stanley, TEAL Patents managing director, said: “It was great to be able to show someone as influential as the business secretary what our company is all about and discuss some of the challenges we face.”
Dame Caroline said: “I was delighted to welcome the Business Minister, Greg Clark, to Chelmsley Wood to visit TEAL Patents.
“A medium sized, family-run and owned enterprise; TEAL is an excellent example of how innovative products, designed and manufactured here in the West Midlands, are sought after and exported world over”.
