Earlier this week, Caroline congratulated the Bishop of Gloucester, the Rt Rev Rachel Treweek, who was introduced into Parliament as one of twenty six Lords Spiritual by Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby and Bishop of London Richard Chartres.
The Second Church Estates Commissioner commented: “It has been over two decades since the ordination of women was first agreed by the Church of England General Synod in 1994, but for the first time, a woman has taken her seat as one of the twenty six Lord Bishops in Parliament”.
“I was honoured to be witness to this great event, attending the ceremony as Second Church Estates Commissioner and a Member of the Privy Council”.
“I offer my sincere congratulations to Bishop Treweek, who has since her ordination, always worked hard in the interests of her parishioners and the Church, and I look forward to witnessing the positive contributions I know that she will bring to the House”.
