In recent days, the Bastille Day celebrations in Nice were shattered by a despicable act of terrorism which has claimed the lives eighty four people and injured more than fifty in the coastal city of Nice.
Caroline Spelman said:
'On behalf of local residents in Meriden, I extend my sincere and heartfelt condolences to the people of France at this difficult time. In particular, my thoughts are prayers are with the men, women and children who have fallen victim to this attack and their families'.
'Despite this attack, I would like to reassure local residents that the Prime Minister, Theresa May, and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office are already in contact with the French Government in order to support the French Authorities and British citizens currently in Nice. The government will continue to provide travel advice and updates as they emerge which will be published via the Foreign Office website and on social media'.
'As the terror threat level in France remains high and a national state of emergency is still in place following the November Terrorist Attacks in Paris, I would advise anyone who is intending to travel to Nice in the coming days to consider the advice being issued by the authorities'.
'If any constituents have concerns about the well-being of loved ones who may have been attending the celebrations in Nice to contact the FCO via their emergency hotline for updates: 020 7008 1500'.
