After a warm summer, it once again becomes the time of year when we must all think about how every community must ensure that its residents stay safe and well during the winter.
In semi-rural communities like Meriden and Dickens Heath in my constituency, planning for the winter is essential.
One of the ways that you can do this is by ensuring that very young children and vulnerable adults take advantage of the winter flu vaccine. This vaccine is available free of charge to over 65’s, at risk children and adults, and carers through your local GP.
I would strongly urge eligible residents to take advantage of this service. In previous years there has been a lower than average uptake of winter flu vaccine in Solihull, despite Flu being a highly infectious illness that can lead to serious complications such as pneumonia. If you are not sure if you qualify for a free flu jab, check online by visiting www.nhs.uk/flu.
