Dame Caroline joined families and the new Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Flo Nash (Lab), at a community event at Dorridge Methodist Church to celebrate the launch of a new community defibrillator.
Families in attendance took part in children’s games, face-painting and enjoyed a hog-roast, candy floss and other light refreshments.
The life-saving medical equipment has been paid for through the Church’s Community Outreach Group’s fundraising campaign and with support from West Midlands Ambulance Service and the British Heart Foundation.
Dame Caroline, who is a supporter of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Heart Disease in Parliament, welcomed the launch;
“It was great to be able to meet with local residents at this event and celebrate the launch of the defibrillator in the community.
“In particular, I would like to thank the West Midlands Ambulance Service for the help they have given Dorridge Methodist Church and offer a hearty congratulations the Community Outreach Group on their efforts to generate funding for this project. Whilst I sincerely hope that there will never be a need to make use of the equipment, in the event of an emergency this defibrillator could make a real difference”.
